1. Preparation:

We need to understand the below two things for upgrade process.
* SAP Readiness Check
* Maintenance Planner

SAP Readiness Check:
• This tool to analyzes the current SAP system version and recommended the target system supported necessary actions. Next Blog we will explain the all things.
• Check the latest SAP notes for SAP Readiness check and implement the sap notes for identify the all simplification items and readiness checks.

Maintenance Planner:
• SAP Maintenance planner is generates the stack xml file for upgrade process. It is necessary for upgrade process.

2. Understand the Upgrade Phases:

The upgrade consists of the mainly two main phases.
1. Prepare phase
2. Realize Phase.

Prepare phase:
• In this phase we can planning and compatibility of the Application, OS & DB of the target version and Business function.

Realize Phase:
• In this phase we can perform the upgrade using the SUM tool. SUM: Software Update Manager
• Using SUM Tool, we can perform the actual upgrade of the S/4 HANA Versions.
• Many SUM phases is there in the process.
• Extraction, Configuration, Check, Preprocessing, Execution and Post processing.

3. Simplification Item-Check

Simplification item checks it will cover on the Readiness check. In the process identifies the relevant simplification items for the upgrade process. It is important of the upgrade. Before upgrade we can check the simplification item checks and Readiness check of the systems. Once readiness check is completed then we can go for upgrade process using SUM tool. If we cannot perform the simplification items , in SUM phases we will get the issue.

4. Custom Code Analysis:

Custom code analysis, we can check the Custom code against of the simplification items for SAP S/4 HANA. Before upgrade, we need to check with the ABAP/Functional team for Custom code analysis. Otherwise we will get more issue future.

5. Post-Upgrade Activities

After the upgrade/update for the S/4HANA, We need to perform the cleanup activities for obsolete data and SAP Fiori application configuration and activation properly.

Other Key points:

• S/4HANA SPS update or S/4HANA Version upgrade we will above follow the process.
• ECC to S/4HANA conversion, Simplification item checks/Readiness check is required.
Example: ECC6 EHP8 to S/4HANA 2023
• S/4HANA version upgrade Simplification item checks/Readiness check is required.
Example: S/4HANA 2022 to S/4HANA 2023
• S/4HANA SPS update Simplification item checks/Readiness check is Not required.
Example: S/4HANA 2022 SP00 to SP01 patch update.
• Before upgrade/update, Please check the File system space. If required, we need to add the space on FS for upgrade process.
• We need to check OS , Application and DB compatibility for Target Version.
• If you can perform the SPS update, Please check the system and run the RC* report and check the target version simplification item details exist or not. If Not exist then Generate/download the simplification items from service market.
• If you can perform the S/4HANA Version upgrade/update, Please check the system is connected to sap support portal. Please check Backbone configuration is working or not.
If any issue from sap system to sap support portal, if any note is required then we will download the manually and implement the note. It is taking more time. Before upgrade/update sap connectivity is required.
